: Hi! I just received a darling parakeet and have it in the kitchen (room which is most "lived in" so it has company)... however not sure it is the best choice after reading information.
: Why not have it in the kitchen and near (not too close) a closed window??

: many thanks!

Karin,
In the kitchen the temp changes frequently. When you cook it makes it warmer and then when you are done it cools back down several times a day. this is hard on the bird. Plus teflon on pans when used emits toxic fumes to the bird and can kill it. windows reguardless if they are closed or not have a draft and a cold draft from a window is also dangerous to the bird.
the best is to put the bird in a different place maybe if you have a hallway by the kitchen so the bird is still close to the action but away from drafts and fumes.
good luck
Jodi,
