A "slightly" limp leg can be a symptom of a serious infection. Birds make every effort to hide illness. Once a bird appears ill, the situation is serious. Giving antibiotics, particularly in the water, generally does more harm than good. For these reasons, the only advice that I ever give concerning a sick bird, is to immediately bring it to a veterinarian. : Sorry if this is posting more than once. I can't see it on the board. Just never been so attached to a pet of any kind before. Since it laid eggs I would believe Hal was a she. 14 months old. : : I came home from work a week ago monday and noticed he was favoring one leg. It looked a little red but didn't seem to be anything serious. His leg continued to get worse and he had difficulty flying and was looking very sick. I know, I should have taken him in then, but I went to the pet store and upon their advise gave him antibiotics. : Returning from work yesterday he was at the bottom of the cage in a sleeping position -- head tucked. At this time he was really looking ill. It was too late to take him anywhere. : This morning he was almost completely non-responsive and very warm. I knew he was going to die at this point. He was always very active and sang for hours on end. He died about 3 hours later. : Does anyone have an idea what might of happened? I feel so guilty right now and do not want this happening again. : Thanks in advance,
