: My norwich hen Hyacinth started to wheeze late Sat nite, she wheezed off and on all day on Sunday, Sunday nite she slept without the labored breathing and started up wheezing 1st thing this morn. I brought her to my vetinarian hosp, but the 2 aviary doctors are off today. They have her in an incubator there tonite and the avian doctors will check her tomorrow. I don't think she has mites because the other 2 canarys don't and they have only been in contact with one another. Is there a kind of medication 'SCAT'? or antibiotic that birds can take for a respiratory prblm? She is the only one with this problem and I didn't want to let it go since I was afraid it could be fatal or contagious to the other birds. The vet hosp is expensive, but they couldn't guarantee me that I would be able to take her home today and have her seen tomorrow because they book up very fast. Do I have to worry about the other canarys if she does have a respiratory prblm...thanks Judy I took my medical records and xrays on Hyacinth to the aviary owner where I bought her. He was an experienced bird breeder for over 20 years. He was concerned about a soft mass they saw in her body. She was in estrus at the time of her death and he said it was prbly an egg absorbed back into her body poisoning her system. He called it 'peritonitis'..I read up on it and one of the symptoms it respiratory trbl. It is also usually fatal requiring euthanansia or the bird will suffer a slow death. He was surprised that they gave her 3 injections and said that they should have used a nebulizer instead. thanks Judy
