: : : : I was wondering if someone could tell me, Why a perfectly sweet, cuddly, loving, and fun bird, turns into a shark if his dishes are touched !! I have 2 birds like this. One is a conure, and the other a Pionus. I can do anything with these birds, except take their dishes in and out without a hassle of being nipped. Is this some sort of cage domain protection ??

: : : The only thing I can suggest is that for some strange reason they are afraid their food is being taken away.  Another reason is that they just get very excited when they get their food.  I know this could be hard but maybe if you try feeding them some treat from your hand.  I don't know what else to tell you.

: :   These birds do take food from my hand very nicely. They just don't like their dishes removed ? The other birds I have, don't do this. My Nanday doesn't mind her dish being taken, at all, and the LoveBird doesn't care either. Maybe personality traits or something? I am sure to be quick about taking and putting dishes in and out, that's for sure. Haha After 13 years, I'm pretty good at it I think. If they are outside their cages, they don't mind. But if they are inside, they try to nip me if I'm not quick about it. I take them out on my arm, and they are fine. But I can NOT touch their dish. They are rascals, eh ?

: I had a bird that did the same thing.  She would climb on the food dish so it was hard to get it away from her.  Since you can take the birds out of their cage easily try taking them out first and then remove the dishes.  they may even sit nicely on your shoulder as you do this.  Mine enjoyed the ride on my shoulder and it became some more special time we spent to gether.
