Parakeets, canaries, and finches need to be sprayed once a week with a fine mist avian insecticide with .05% pyrethrin as the active ingredient. Also, it's always a good idea to offer birds a bath once a week. A regular regime would be: If the feathers don't quickly grow back, do take the bird to a veterinarian. : There seems to be an abnormal amount of feathers in the bottom of my parakeets cage. Although there are no bald spots oh my birds chest it seems like he's losing alot of his little belly feathers. Also it seems that he has been itching and scratching alot wihich leads me to beleive that maybe he has some kind of mite and the scratching is causing him to lose feathers. Somebody please help me!
