: I am new to canaries. I've had a cream colored male for about two years. He is just finishing moulting and I noticed that he has a growth of some sort on the back of his neck/shoulder area. Seems to be mixed up with a clump of feathers coming out. Is this something that happens normally? What should I do? Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas help is appreciated...

Hello Brian:
I have seen these referred to but since my bird has never had them I don't know how you can get rid of them yourself. If you don't know how to do it you can kill the bird.

If I were you I would take this bird to a good Avian Vet and he should know how to take care of this for you.
Good Luck and please keep us posted.
Grace
