Annoying birds will certainly discourage breeding. You definitely want to avoid handling a hen that might be ready to lay an egg. If the egg beaks internally, dire consequences will result. An egg bound hen very quickly becomes exhausted and finds it hard to move. If the bird is moving about and eating, she is not egg bound. To prevent egg binding, always provide birds with a source of calcium (e.g. grit, cuttlebone) and vitamins. : If i hold my female parakeet, will that disencourage her to stop laying eggs? I grabbed to see if her tummy was soft to see if there was an egg coming (or egg-binding), will that upset her and not lay eggs?
