: : : Hi, about to start breeding season again shortly here in the southern hemisphere. My chicks from last year are all grown up & I'm about to find out if my beliefs about their various sexes have been accurate!  One of the "females" is starting to tear the newspaper in her cage and put it in her water dish! Nesting behaviour or is she just bored? The other day two of them were having a tug of war with a peice of newspaper. Had to move the bossiest male into his own cage but so far the other three seem to be getting along ok.

: Sara:  I was told that newspaper is very bad for nesting, the ink will absorb into the chicks skin and potentially kill the chicks.  During nesting season try not to use newspaper.  (It kind of alarms me that its in the water.  I am not sure of the effects it would have on the adults, bathing drinking.)
