Hello Judy:
It does sound as though your little gloster corona canary is a female. Have you had her long enough for her to lay eggs. You will know for sure when she does this. She does not have to be with a male to lay eggs. The eggs are just not fertilized.
As far as your question about the finches I really do not know so I would not want to answer that.
