I agree with the other poster Except all my cages I use nothing BUT newspaper Anything else is a waste and the corn cob can lead to impacted crop and digestive issues leading to death.
Also i am one of those who believe that budgies do NOT need grit as they shell their seeds
Also Make sure they have cuttle bone and mineral block
you can also take egg shell washed in hot water placed in a microwave for 1 mintute to two minutes to dry BUT not burn
then crumble and crush finely add this to their seed and pellets this will give them calcium
Also make sure they are on a proper diet veggies green leafy veggies egg hard boiled or scrambled wiht some grated apple and wheat toast ground with the egg shell in a food processor

This helps them have all they need

I would take the egg and replace in bottom of cage and leave it there till you were sure no more would be laid The female will sometimes ignore till two or three have been laid
Are you sure they are male and female?
You do not want to remove and leave out though she will keep laying to replace it if you do.
If babies are NOT something you want to deal with and with the knowledge you have i would say it is not something you are ready for You can shake the eggs well and then replace in cage this prevents a chick from forming IF they are fertile
Which Unless one of your birds is a TRUE male then that is NOT able to happen

Good Luck

Cheryl

Hi. My brother left for Iraq to serve in the war. He left his male and female parakeets in my care while he is gone. It's been several months and they fight like crazy but I came home today and there is an egg on the bottom of the cage floor. I have no nest box or anything like that. My brother left crunched up corn cob for me to use on the cage floor. He had been using that. So the egg is just sitting there. Neither one of the birds is sitting on the egg. They are not even going near it. I do not beleive they have ever laid eggs before. I don't know what to do. The cage needs to be cleaned but I am scared to do anything with the egg sitting there. I don't want to disturb anything. Any suggestions? Anyone? Feel free to email me. Thanks.
