: Hi- : I have three canaries in the same large cage (they have been together in the same cage for seven months). I have two males and one unsexed bird. The two males sing robustly during the day and only squabble at sundown (no actual fights, just displaying at each other). The "unsexed" bird was sold to me as a male but I am not so sure. "She" sings, but very softly and does not fight with or display at the two males at all. "She" also likes to perch alongside the males and will allow them to feed her. "She" shows no interest in nest building even though all of the supplies are there. All of my birds are 1-2 years old. I provided them with egg food, greens and everything that they might want to get them into breeding condition. So, is it possible that my unsexed bird is a male? or a female that has no interest in breeding? or is not ready to breed? Considering they have been together all this time, should I have eggs? : thanks, : Renee Hello Renee: First of all if you definitely know that 2 of these birds are mailes you should separate them and also keep the female in a separate cage but close enough to the males so that if the female shows signs of building a nest and displays at either 1 of the males the put the female in with 1 male. They may mate and then she may lay eggs. Good Luck and please keep us posted. Grace
