: I think it is important for parakeets to fly for their health and mental well being...I 
: have 8 parakeets and they all fly around in a special room in my house that I have 
: "bird proofed".  Granted, taming will not be as easy, but if you hang out in the room 
: where they are out and flying around, they might come land on you over time.  Keep 
: offering them treats out of your hand and handle them as you can.  Clipped birds do 
: stay tamer, but I don't believe the cost in terms of their lack of exercise and inability 
: to get around is worth it.  You have to be the judge of that however.  You could clip 
: them again and work with them more intensively for a few months until their next 
: molt, and then let them fly.  If they are tame at that point, they will tend to stay 
: tame, but will be more independent than if you don't have them fully flighted.  I 
: think the factor that will make them less tame is that they have each other for 
: companionship so don't need you as much as if you only had one bird.
