My parakeet has a problem with his beak. It seems to be all crusted up and has grown really long. He won't use his cuttle bone, and the beak is soft - looks kinda like a diseased toenail on a person. I realize I need to take him to the vet - but I was wondering if anyone knew if this was treatable here? Should I trim the beak? Is there an OTC medication I can give him? He seems to have to crusty beak like growths coming from the corners of his mouth which I thought was his beal just overgrown, but it is actually almost like another beak growing. This happened rather quickly - and I am really hoping to do something for him myself and avoid a high vet bill. My last one was over a grand and I am still paying it off. Thanks for any suggestions or links you can pass along!
