: : I recently lost the mother to my parakeet.  I was told she was egg bound, but I now wonder.  This parakeet is only a year old & the mother died two weeks ago, she was like5-6 yrs. old.  The mother had a very red face.  Now this parakeet is developing the same red face.  Is this a disease & if so what do I do?  I can't lose this bird too.

: I have never heard of a parakeet's face turning red and you should consult an avian vet about this.  As far as the mother being egg bound, if not caught and treated in time it will kill them.  Being egg bound can happen to them at any age.  My birds face did not turn red when she was egg bound so I don't think there is a connection.
