Some female birds will pluck their own feathers during breeding season, especially around the vent area (rear end) in preparation for egg laying. They also can pull feathers out of the lower abdomen to enable them to better incubate their eggs. Plucking can also be a behavioral problem caused by a variety of things. I have a male lovebird who has plucked all his neck feathers out...he is very hormonal and exhibits excessive sexual behavior which has been going on for well over a year. I took him to my vet and he gave him a Depo-provara hormone injection to try to stop his regurgitating, plucking and sexual mounting behavior. Birds usually molt at the end of the breeding season, not in the middle of it. Also, female birds that are ovulating often have gigantic droppings, ( I mean HUGE)! But the males should have normal droppings. I'm glad they are eating pellets...that is the best diet for them, although they need about a teaspoon of seed a day so they don't get too high a dose of vitamins contained in the pellets. 80% of their diet should be pellets. Sounds like some breeding behavior going on with them...
