Overgrowth of beaks can be a sign of liver disease...this is often a dietary problem when a bird only receives seed. Try converting her onto a commercial parakeet pellet, like Zupreem Fruitblend pellets which is nutritionally complete. It may be a challenge to convert your birds since they may not recognize the pellets as food right away. There are a lot of good articles on the web about converting from seed to pellets. Also, offer fresh greens like dark lettuce or spinach, carrots, corn, peas etc. Parakeets must have a variety of foods, not just seed. Re. trimming...be CAREFUL...I recommend not doing it yourself if you aren't experienced, but having a vet or qualified groomer do it. The best thing to use is a Dremel with a grinding tip on LOW speed to slowly grind away the tip while still keeping it shaped like a pointed beak. If you clip it too short and it starts bleeding, the bird may well die from shock or blood loss.
