You usually need to feed red factor color food to a red factor canary during it's molt in order to keep the red color. There are many varieties available over the internet. If you give him some now it might help, but I would definetily recommend giving it to him just prior and during all future molts. Also, my canary's like to have half of one perch covered with the sand perch covers to help keep their beaks and nails trimmed.
