Parakeets as all birds are very sensative to drafts, cover there cage at night,I have about 60 keets in my enclosed avery here in Califoirnia that is draft free and they do well even on chilly nights. With a new bird you might try keeping him covered in a spare room for the first 3 to 5 days as some birds im told will go into shock which weakens them soon after they will die. I also have my special pet bird ( fred ) I covered him the first few days in a quite room and slowly uncovered his cage to allow him to get used to me. He's a great pet we have had him six years now. hope this helps
