I have the same problem here with my 5-month-old lame dove, she can't move her legs; instead, she crawls slowly on her wings. I know she looks pathetic, but she's happy when she gets her food, sits in the light, or has me whistle or fondle her... from time to time. I wish I could make her fly again, but she got a virus that paralyzed her legs. I give her a medicine to help, but the doctor said she wil not fly or walk like before. Yet, I'm glad she is still alive (the virus could have moved to the rest of her body and killed her, hadn't I taken her the very next day to the vet) -- just like yours could have died, with other birds who die in severe wind storms. It doesn't matter she is lame or not, I just want this little creature to be happy, because like us, animals deserve to live. Having a pet, especially such a peaceful, quiet one in the house, brings joy to us sometimes... I read about birds' behavior in general, and doves in particular, to understand how those creatures live, how they feel and express their feelings. However, I don't spend that much time playing with, or thinking of my dove. We all have other things to do, and life is full of responsibilities. Making others happy, humans or other animals, makes us happy too. I hope, if I was ever found someday injured in the middle of a storm, that someone would find me and save me from dying in the cold!
