: I recently bought two baby keets. I got Tremelo (we're assuming 'guy' here) about 2 wks before Dolce Aria (we're going with 'girl'). Although they're still young they've been acting like they want to mate, and since Tremelo seems more aggressive and attention-loving (plus his cere is purple-ish) while Dolce is more reserved, MUCH smoother, smaller and altogether more lady-like (plus her cere is light-light purple at the very edge, mostely all white), we're thinking we have one of each. Duh. But I was looking at Tremelo's cere, and it looks a lot whiter around the nostrils. This is making me wonder... Also, does the fact that Tremelo has a little crestie-mohawkie thing (while Dolce doesn't) mean anything? Please help, because we're all feeling a little akward to say the least!

Keetie:
In order to breed your keets, you need to find out if they are in breeding condition and with the information you have provided, they are not in breeding condition. When your keets are in breeding condition, the cere of the male will be dark, shiny blue and the female's cere will be crusty dark brown. If you see your keet's ceres' of these colors, than they are in breeding condition. Your keets are still babies, you need to start breeding them when they are more than a year old; if you breed them too soon, then there will be a chance that your female will have egg-bound (when egg does not come out of the female).

Hope that helped!
