Canary FAQ

Posted by TChitwood on August 22, 2005 at 06:33:42:

Hello! I hope I can find some answers here about the female albino parakeet I have. She's been laying eggs for about a week, but not all at once. So far she's layed 6 eggs and was wondering for how long or how many eggs she might lay. The eggs are not fertilized, she is the only bird we have. A while back I put in a nesting box because she was exhibiting nesting behavior, but she totally ignored the box and all she does is use it for pooping target practice, heh heh. Anyhow, she doesn't seem to care about the eggs, she just sits up on the highest perch and just "plops" them out and lets them fall to the bottom of the cage and doesn't even give them a second notice. 3 of the eggs had broken, but 3 remained whole, but she still just ignores them, or she poops on them. Is this normal? I was wondering if she knows they are not fertile and if that is why she doesn't care about them? Other than her bombing the bottom of the cage with her eggs, she's been acting completely normal. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks!
