Most people use a reptile hot block. The infants are kept in a large enough container so that they can move closer to, or away from the source of heat.

If you raised successfully one nest of birds under similar conditions, I'd not suspect heat to be the problem. Are you feeding the same food this time? How old are the babies when you separate them?
