: what are you supposed to feed new born parakeets if breeding them? will the mom take care of everything or does another formula or food need to be give the the new born? and when is it safe to handle the new borns? do the babies need to be separated from the parents at any time? any information will be helpful!

The mother keet feeds the babies.

Good nutrition for the parents is particularly important. Be sure to provide vitamins, cuttlebone, mineral grit, small amounts of fruits and vegetables and egg nestling food. You can make egg food by mixing a small amount of cooked chicken egg (prepared as for human consumption) with grated carrot and crumbled whole wheat bread.

Birds might need to get used to new foods. Only give small amounts to start. But, do provide the new foods every day.

Fresh foods can spoil. Remove uneaten portions at the end of the day.

You can touch the nestlings. The parent keets won't kill the babies with the human scent, as can happen with rodents. But, frequent disturbance will cause the birds to abandon the nest.

You separate the offspring when the youngsters leave the nest and are eating on their own. On rare occasions, the father will attack the babies when they come out of the nest. If that happens, the male needs to be placed in a separate cage until the young are eating seed and in their own cages.
