I have had my green male parakeet for three weeks. He is a stray, appears young, but I don't know the history. My neighbor gave me one of her blue female parakeets (the bird was with a brother who mated with another unrelated female). I have the smaller green male and the somewhat larger blue female together in a very large cage with natural tree limbs, etc. He likes her and is constantly trying make contact. She is avoiding him and snaps back. I realize that she might be in shock as the neighbor just ran over with her in a towel and I had no choice but to put them together. The bird might be grieving for her family. I can't find info on this as to how much time I should give her to warm up. I also plan on adding another couple since the cage is so large 3' x 5' high. Any advice would be helpful.
