If you had two birds die in close proximity to each other it may well have been a
bacterial or other infection. How clean are you keeping the water dish and cage?
Are you washing your water bowls with hot water and soap and also soaking them
in bleach water every couple of weeks? Or do you just dump and refill them without
cleaning the dish? Slimy water bowls are full of bacteria and I believe this is a silent
killer of birds. Also, leaving droppings on perches, dishes, cage bars etc all result in
ingestion of fecal matter as the bird climbs around using its beak, which is not only
disgusting, but can be deadly.

I also think improving diet is very important at any age, and malnutrition results in
death, but with both birds dying it was probably some contagious condition.
