You might try spritzing them with WARM water, not COLD water (would you enjoy a cold bath?) and do this regularly but only briefly at first if they run from the spray bottle. Parakeets and all birds do need to bathe to keep their feathers in good condition, and many birds enjoy a shower instead of getting in a dish of water. Buy a new spray bottle that has never had anything in it and that has a FINE mist. Spray it up in the air over the birds so it falls back down on them like rain, don't spray it AT them. Remove their food and any rope or fabric toys prior to spraying to avoid mold growing. They will probably soon enjoy it. My keets love romaine and red or green leaf lettuce, and if you clip a large dripping wet lettuce leaf from the top of the cage above a perch using a clothes pin many will actually roll around in the wet leaf, because in the wild they naturally bathe by rolling in dew on the grass. Sometimes the presentation of vegetables isn't conducive to getting them to eat the, so if you are trying, for example, carrots, and they won't eat a carrot stuck between the bars of the cage, try grating it and offering it in a separate treat cup. Try cooking a hard boiled egg, chopping it up and adding defrosted frozen corn and peas and warming it slightly in the microwave (make sure it is cool). It can take birds many exposures to a new food before they will try it because they may not recognize it as food initially. I offer mine dry cereal, as well (unsweetened), wholegrain bread, cooked pasta or brown rice and also they eat moistened Zupreem Fruitblend pellets (moistened with water) which has all the nutrients in it that seed doesn't have. You will greatly lengthen their lifespan if you can get them on pellets or at least other healthy table foods...so don't give up! It took me over a year to convert one bird onto a variety of foods...
