I would not use moss, but you can use safe tree branches, washed in hot water and a little bleach and allowed to dry. There are lists of safe woods to use on the web. I use apple tree branches that I know for sure are NOT sprayed with fertilizer or treated for pests. Try to get them directly off the tree after pruning and not off the ground where they can be contaminated. You can also use small reed baskets from craft stores that are not painted or varnished and you can make all kinds of fun toys with craft items. If you want any other ideas, please email me..I make all my own toys and enrichment items for my pet birds (including 2 parakeets), as well as for 6 large birds at our local zoo, so have researched the subject at length and have found some fun things for birds to do in their "spare time".
