Canary FAQ

Posted by Christy on April 24, 2005 at 19:08:22:

I've had my parakeet for almost 10 years, and all of those years he was in perfect health, and just recently died. I'd like to believe that he peacefully died of old age, but a lot of factors go into that make me wonder.

So, my questions are:

Would switching his diet after 9 years have any effect to his health? I recently changed his food to wild bird seed, because I was told that they can eat the seed despite it being a lot bigger than normal...

And my last question is, is it possible for birds to spread disease? Only a couple of days before my bird died, he was around another parakeet that died unexpectedly.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!
