: Can I keep canaries and parakeets in a large community cage together? Canaries are not sociable birds. Outside of the breeding season, canaries should be kept one bird to a cage. During the breeding season, it's one pair to the cage. Parakeets will get along with several pair of their own kind to a cage. Make sure that the number of males is the same as the number of females, or their will be endless bickering. Do have one (and only one) nest box for each pair. Even with Keets, it's better to have one pair to a cage. Parakeets can bully and kill canaries. Parakeet and canaries have very different needs. NEVER house parakeets and canaries in the same cage!
