Short answer:
Yes.

Long answer:
In canaries, egg production is due to the number of hours of daylight -- not the presence of a nest. A hen in good health can easily produce and raise four clutches.

Production of eggs is very stressful. If you believe the hen requires a rest, remove the male and allow her to continue to lay the eggs in a nest. Replace the eggs with marbles and allow her to sit full term.

Nesting -- and egg production -- ceases with the onset of the moult. In my experience (New York City area), that's starts in June-July and continues into September.

In any event, nutrition is paramount. Be certain that protein, vitamins, and minerals are available in abundance!


: mother laid an egg in seed cup.this will be her 3rd time laying.should i put the nest back in???
