Short answer: Long answer: Production of eggs is very stressful. If you believe the hen requires a rest, remove the male and allow her to continue to lay the eggs in a nest. Replace the eggs with marbles and allow her to sit full term. Nesting -- and egg production -- ceases with the onset of the moult. In my experience (New York City area), that's starts in June-July and continues into September. In any event, nutrition is paramount. Be certain that protein, vitamins, and minerals are available in abundance!
