I have had my parakeet Charlie for a month. So far,I have not been able to make any progress in getting this little guy to even get near my hand. I have had parakeets before, but never had this problem.I can still see faint bars just above the cere with the darker ones just a teeny way up from the cere,so I believe he is a young one.I did get him at a pet store where I had gotten my first one and had her for 10 years. She could say over 50 phrases and yes,she definitely was a female, so the sex of the bird is no big thing to me.My problem is how to approach this little bird and become friends. I have kept the cage by me so it will get used to my movements, have fed it millet spray from my hand, but only in his cage. He does not respond to a mirror at all. He mostly sits and goes through all kinds of contortions trying to get out of his cage.He does chirp and he listens when I talk to him and he has made little gurgle sounds in his throat, but I am at a loss as to how to tame this one.HELP!!
