: : I have noticed that my male canary has lost a lot of feathers just around his neck.  What could be causing this and will they grow back someday?  He is still singing and eating well.  Thank you for any information or ideas.

: Make sure that the bird's diet is vitamin, mineral, and protein enriched.  EVERY day canaries need a protein supplement.  For one bird, a little bit of mashed chicken egg (cooked as per human consumption) mixed with crumbled whole wheat bread is fine.

: To control mites and lice, canaries, parakeets, and finches need to be sprayed once a week with a fine mist of an avian insecticide that contains .05% pyrethrin as the active ingredient.
