: Hello, A proper light schedule is very important. Make sure that the bird is getting the same number of hours of light and dark as there is in nature. If there is a light on in the bird's room at night, then cover the cage with large towel from dusk to dawn. Make sure that the bird is getting a complete diet. If the seed isn't vitamin enriched, then provide vitamins in the water. Each day, give a small amount of fruit, vegetable, and a protein-source. A small amount of chicken egg cooked as for human consumption mixed with whole wheat bread is very good. To control mites and lice, each week mist the bird and the area around the cage with an avian insecticide that contains .05% pyrethrin as the active ingredient.
