: I am a new canary owner. I give my bird fresh fruits and vegtables and he loves them. My question/concern is how much of his diet should consist of fresh? I do not want to deplete the amount of protien he gets by giving too much produce. The other day, I gave him 7 leaves of spinach and he ate it all. He seems to eat all the fresh produce I give him, but how much it too much?? It's good to provide a wide variety of fresh foods, but don't give too much of any one item at once. Every day, provide a slice of fruit, a small piece of greens or a vegetable (about the size of your thumb) and a source of protein (a small piece of chicken egg from your own breakfast is fine). For more ideas, please see the Link.
