Bert is fine, but he is not very happy with me right now.

I left one of the cage doors open while I went to the bathroom yesterday, and he got out. I let him stay out for a while, but then came the dreaded moment when I had to catch him (He is not finger trained.). I had to catch him by throwing some cloth over top of him, and I did it rather ineptly. He got out from under the cloth at least four times before I could catch him and hold on to him in order to put him back in the cage. Needless to say this was extremely stressful for him, and he seems much less happy at the moment. He has done a little singing, but not much, and he did much less flying today than what he usually does.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I thought I had seen a new set of tail feathers growing in, as Bert only had a single one when I first brought him home. I can now say that this has been confirmed. They are new tail feathers, and not just the tips of his wing feathers, which I thought I could be mistaking for new tail feathers. The new feathers are growing in nicely, and there is a noticeable difference in their length from day to day.

Bert does appear to be doing all of his singing with his mouth closed. The only exception was an unpleasent screech he made yesterday while I was trying to catch him, which he did with his mouth wide open.

I hope Bert gets over the traumatic experience of yesterday. It bothers that he is so upset, and I hope he will forgive me and start feeling better soon.
