: Sometimes, I am asked what is the significance of having a canary with hoarsness of voice. Well, if only certain tones are hoarse, and other tones of singing are normal then it is just a variation. On the other hand, if the voice is hoarse all through then there is something wrong.

My male canary acts extremely healthy, however he has never really sung again after he molted, months ago and I notice at times he kinda makes this clicking sound, sings very softly if at all,and when I talk to him,his peep is kinda hoarse.I have a hen now, right next to him,in a different cage. They both have all the requirements to be healthy and happy and seem to be. However,he doesn't seem interested in her and never sings!!
The hen acts real interested in him, like she wants to be with him. Why isn't he singing for her? He used to sing like no canary I've ever heard. Deafening!!! It was great. Now not a note.
Frustrated,
Susan
