Hi,
It seems that your canary was previously tamed. Those who are not tamed should not be allowed to get out of the cage. The cage is not a jail it is simply a safe nice home. Canaries generally do not need toys. Is your canary a chopper or a roller? Chopper canaries sing with their mouth open. Rollers sing with their mouth closed.

: It has now been a full week since I first found Bert, my new canary friend, and the news is good.

: He seems to be happy, and has become quite strong and healthy. He constantly flies back and forth in his cage (45 inches long), and sings often.

: Bert got out of his cage on Monday, and, contrary to what the canary FAQ says, enjoyed exploring the apartment. He flew from spot to spot, singing to proclaim them as his territory. He enjoyed it so much, that I am trying to figure out if there is an easy way to let him out from time to time, yet still get him back into his cage without having to throw a shirt or towel over him to catch him. Any suggestions?

: The cage I built is large, and has places to perch at either end, but is otherwise drab and boring. Are there any suggestions as to different things I may add to it (toys and such) to give Bert some additional stimulation?
