: Mites often afflict canaries.  These pests cause foot problems.  To control mites and lice, spray the birds, the cage and the area around the cage once a week with an avain insecticide that contains .05% pyrethrin as the active ingredient.

: Under the supervision of a veterinarian, ivermectin can be used to eliminate many parasites.

: Sore feet in birds also can be a symptom of a serious infection.  An examination by an avian veterinarian is required to achieve a diagnosis.
