: We are about to get a nest box for our parakeets. They are used to having time each day outside the cage to fly around the house. Should we continue that or keep them confined to the cage to encourage breeding. My opinion is that pet birds should never be allowed to fly around the house. There's no benefit to the bird and many, many risks. Keeping the birds in the cage should help them concentrate on breeding.
