I am looking for a nest box. The book says it should have a concave to hold the eggs, but the only ones I can find just have a flat bottom. What type of box did you get? Did it have a perch near the entry hole? Did you have it in or out of the nest? How often did you clean it? Did it have a removable bottom for cleaning? Maybe I will get whatever box they have and try to get my husband to make an insert.

: Dear Vicki:
: I have had pair of 'keets for about 8 years and she started to lay a egg or 2 on the floor of the cage. Someone told me to give her a nesting box and I purchased one at the local pest store for about $7.00 (simple square box w/hole in front.) I put the lone egg in the box and put her in several times a day for about 3-4 days. all of a sudden I look in and there are 8 eggs!!!!I called local aviary and they told me to let nature take it's course until they started to hatch. I would prepare chopped hard boiled eggs (shell and all), cous cous and spring greens. Chop all of it up and the male will feed and then feed the female who in turn feeds the babies. This went on for about 5-6 weeks and 2-3 times a day. All babies sucsessfully lived and were very healthy but none of the pet stores would but them because they said I needed to be a certified breeder. I gave them to the aviary ( they will sell them but not for me!) Now before I could take the nesting box away she has 5 more eggs! this was within a matter of a few days. What a dilema!!!I have to decide wether to let her hatch them or commit "eggiscide."

:
: : We have 2 keets (male & female) that have been sharing a cage
: for about a year. They are very happy together. I was told they will not mate until/unless there is a nest box. I am looking for a good source of information so that we will be prepared for babies if it happens.
: : If you have expereince to share or a book or other source of informatin to share, please let me know. Thanks.
