: I just found the egg cracked open and in her WATER dish! I removed it, threw it away, cleaned the dish and gave her fresh water. Was that okay? She still has what I assume is yoke on her beard and is acting really hyper, but seems okay. This all seems really, really creepy to me. Is this normal? Never had a hen before. Thanks for the info. The increasing number of hours of daylight induces egg production. If the bird ignores or eats the egg, then just discard it. If the bird attempts to sit on it, it will be best to let her do so for two weeks. Sitting on an egg will slow down or stop egg laying. When a bird is laying eggs, it's extremely imprortant to make sure that the diet is vitamin, mineral an protein enriched. Cuttlebone and mineral grit needs to be available.
