: : We have a 2 year-old male parakeet. We will be leaving for a week, with no one to watch the bird. Can we leave enough food and water for him? He would probably be worse off if we took him on the road, but we wnat to make sure he is safe. Has anyone had expereinces with leaving their bird for an extended period of time? : Yoo can't leave a bird alone for a week. If at all possible, make arrangements for someone to come in to provide food and water. If that's not practical, then you need either to bring the bird to a friend's house or to board your keet at a local pet shop. That's kind of what I thought. We'll have to leave him at a friend's house. Will that be too traumatic of a change for him (new surroundings)?
