Why are you using flights instead of cages? Is the flight indoors or outdoors? Where are you located? Is this a commercial venture?

In any case, buy a number of young birds and allow them to mature in their new environment. Unless the breeder is going out of business, nobody sells good breeding pairs. Most of the time the "breeding pairs" on the market are worn out, old birds. And even if you did obtain vigorous pairs, the birds will almost certainly stop breeding when moved and will require a period of time to get used to a new place. Buy young birds to start.

Once breeding starts, make sure that you have exactly the same number of males and females. Extra females will constantly fight with the mated hens and attempt to steal a nest box. Extra males don't make trouble, but they are a waste in a breeding situation. Put in the same number of nest boxes as pairs. Figure on a square-foot of floor area per pair.

: How would I go about starting to breed budgies. We are getting an aviary, and we nest boxes and birds soon. How many birds? Should I buy them as a pair or what? And is there anything else I should know??? I have read lots of books but any help would be greatly appreciated. Please help a novive learn!!!!!!! Thanks!
