: : I believe that the decorative material for easter baskets is colored wax paper.  I can't see how the wax or the dyes would be beneficial for nestlings.  

: : I've found the best material for canary nests to be the strings from laundered burlap feed bags.  Cut the burlap into 4" squared.  Then, pull loose the strings.

: : DO NOT USE the boxes of string that are sold as nest material!  These fine strings wrap around the legs and toes of both the adults and young.  Gangrene and loss of limbs is the result!
