: : : This could be serious. Please take your budgie to someone who specializes in birds. Our budgie had similar symptoms (while we were on vacation) and within a few days his legs became paralized. We took him to the vet too late. He died after about 1 week. Please take your bird in, the earlier the better. : : : : My budgie Sidney appears to have a lump near his : : Thankyou for the reply, I took Sidney to the vet and he isn't sure what is wrong with him. Over the past two weeks I have given him antibiotics from the vet 3 times a day, and bathe him as needed to keep the area clean. He is still eating normally and seems himself but it does not appear to be getting any better, but thankfully no worse. He is in a seperate cage to his partner and they are not very happy about that. The vet gave me a name for an avian vet to take him to if no better in a couple of days. His legs seem to be fine he climbs all over the cage trying to find a way to get to his partner. Again thankyou for the reply and advice. Sidney is just fine I am thankful to say ! After the two weeks of antibiotics he didnt seem any worse, or any better but about 3 days after that it stopped looking so raw and his poo stopped getting stuck in his tail feathers so much. Slowly the feathers began to grow back, and now he is almost completely normal in regards to feathers in the area, and no more baths ! I ended up keeping him seperate from his partner in cages side by side as the vet said it was possible that she had scratched or pecked him and he had an infection that spread. We still dont know what happened to him but I am just happy he is OK ! The antibiotics that the vet gave me had to be made up in water and kept in the fridge. The vet told me to put it in his drinking water, but he wouldnt drink it. I ended up getting a syringe (with no needle) and squirting the stuff into his beak - he didnt like it very much but I knew he was drinking it. I did this 3 times a day for 2 weeks, and at the same time bathed his tail and bottom in warm water and gently cleaned the area with some cotton wool. Your bird wont like this but its for his own good. I hope that this helps, let me know how you go.
