: : My norwich hen Hyacinth (that's her in the photo on top of the cage in your website) died March 25th. Her diagnosis was Dyspnea. I showed her records to the aviary owner where I bought her. He found in the medical records that she was given 3 injections by needle which he wasn't pleased about. His opinion was she had egg yolk peritonitis which caused her respiratory condition. He told me they should have used a nebulizer. He will be giving me a free gloster male canary to replace her. I heard from other bird people about injections being a no-no for small canarys, Can anyone give me info on nebulizers.thanks Judy
: Hi Judy:
: A Nebulizer helps clear the lungs. I have one that I use but I don't know what it would look like for a canary. The along with other meds help clear asmatic bronchitis or pneumonia but how it works for a canary I can't tell you. If you brought your canary to an Avian Vet he should know what he is doing. I had a canary with aie sack mites and he was given shots for that and it helped him. If the injection is administered properly by an Avian Vet who knows what he is doing it should be ok. I am not sure the breeder would know how to cure a canary any more then a vet would know. The vet should know more in this field then a breeder. You did the right thing as far as your little canary is conscerned.
: Good Luck with your new little bird and keep us posted.
: Grace

I am glad to know I did everything possible for her. The vet who ended up treating her at the animal hosp wasn't avian, but she told me she consulted with the one avian vet who was on doing surgery that day. She also seemed to know alot about birds...thanks again Judy
