: : : My daughter bought me a beautiful orange canary for my Birthday two weeks ago and he sings beautifully! The problems is he favors his left foot which has his band on it. The pet store recommended the perch covers which I have since removed per Anthony Olszewski's advice. He will pull that leg up and stand on the one leg mostly later in the day and into the evening. I suspect he may be sleeping like this also. Should I be concerned?
: : Hello Cindy:
: : If your canary is standing on 1 foot late in the day, that indicates that he is resting and ready to go to sleep. All canaries sleep on 1 foot and depending on what direction he is standing he is most likely just comfortable on the right foot. Also how late do you keep him up. My bird like to go to sleep as soon as it is dusk so maybe you should cover him with something to keep the light from bothering him so he can go to sleep. They need at least 12 to 14 hours sleep. As long as he seems healthy and is singing I think he is ok.
: : But let him get his proper amount of sleep.
: : Good Luck, Grace
: Thank-you Grace for the assistance! I leave in the a.m. just as the sun is coming up when I uncover him and then don't get home until after dark. It seems a shame to cover him up once I get home but I'll start doing that and enjoy him on the week-ends. It will be nice when the days get longer again. Thanks again! Cindy
Hello Cindy:
I am glad I helped you. When you are home on the week-end just keep a careful watch on him but if he seems lively and is singing I believe he is ok.
Maybe you see something I do not though and in that case write me again. I love canaries and all birds so I will be only too happy to help you if I can.
Good Luck, Grace
