The nursing home at which I work recently acquired 2 doves for their new dovecote. They were a young pair and the guy who donated them told me to wire up all exits from the dovecote, leave them alone for 3 weeks and they would eventually settle and stick around. However, the manager's bird expert friend (strike expert!!) knew better and he released them after a week and a half. They flew away and whilst the male was seen on the roof for a few days, neither have been seen since. Theories range from the fact that there are pigeons in the area which was putting them off! to there being a number of cats which again was putting them off (incidentally they were bred and raised in a kennels/cattery!) Apparently we are going to acquire a pair of fan-tailed pigeons now and I am anxious to know the best way of keeping these and also was the original advice to me correct. Can anyone help please. I'd hate to see another pair disappear. Chris
