My canary has been sitting for 6 days on 4 eggs in a nest she made in her seed dish. Now she is taking all her nesting material out of the nest and just leaving the eggs. What should I do? She is continuing to sit on the eggs, the seeds that were in the dish, when she made the nest, is the only thing left. : More information. Someone was at home today and noticed : that its the male taking the materials out of the nest. Hello Kathy: If the male was in the cage with her prior to her laying the eggs and they are fertile then you may have to remove him and you can put him in a cage right next to the hen where he cannot tamper with the nest. When the eggs hatch you can always put him back because sometimes the Father will help feed the babies. You will have to watch carefully though because sometimes either the male or most often the female will pluck at the chicks to make a new nest. if that happens out the babies in with the Father after 21 days. Sometimes Fathers are very good feeders. You just can't tell what will happen with these little birds. Good Luck, I hope there will be some nice little babies around. Grace
