: Lord I hope someone out there can help me..I am simply a pet lover, not an official 'breeder', but I weakened and put my two canaries together and now I have a nest with five eggs in it. The problem is the male, he sometimes goes over and pulls a soft feather off of the female while she is sitting and he has even pulled out some nesting material. Is this normal? I have searched my canary handbook but can't find anything on this situation...any info would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hello: I am not a breeder either but if he continues to pull her feathers out you may have to keep them in separate cage side by side.
You can always put him back in to help feed the babies after they are hatched a few days.

Keep a watch on them and if necessary separate them again. You never know for sure what a bird will do.
Good Luck, Grace
